The section is composed of four research groups that, through a multidisciplinary approach, address topics related to research and technological development in cultivated plants, including both herbaceous and woody species.
Crop adaptation to the climate crisis and the need for sustainable food production are the guiding principles of our research. We focus on plant nutrition, the physiological mechanisms underlying agricultural productivity, cropping systems, genomics, and both conventional and advanced biotechnological methods for genetic improvement.
Research and experimental activities are also carried out at the local level, in collaboration with public and private institutions.
Research takes place both in the laboratories at the Rizzi campus and at the University Experimental Farm, which hosts a variety of herbaceous and woody crops, as well as a germplasm collection of many species (such as potato, bean, garlic, maize, grapevine, cherry, peach, etc.).
