  • PNRR project "iNEST - Interconnected North-East Innovation Ecoystem".

    September 2022 - August 2025

Project funded under the National Recovery and Resilience Plan

The section is involved i) in the activities of Spoke 7 (Smart agri-food), in which several components carry out research activities related to the recovery and valorisation of by-products from the processing of various agri-food supply chains in the North-East of Italy, ii) in the Cross Cutting Activity 1 (CC1 - Support to the generation and the development of start-ups and spin-offs) representing Spoke 3 (Green and digital transition for advanced manufacturing technology), also acting as CC1's contact person for the university, iii) in the Cross Cutting Activity 2 (CC2 - Creation of a network of joint strategic labs between universities and companies), aimed at creating a network between the lab villages of the involved universities (the section's staff are focusing in particular on the Bolzano and Udine sites) and companies interested in doing research in the field of Biosytem Engineering.

  • PNRR project "Agritech - Multifunctional and resilient agriculture and forestry systems for the mitigation of climate change risks".

    September 2022 - August 2025

Project funded under the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (Spoke 4)

Different agronomic management solutions will be compared in vineyards of different pedoclimatic and cultivation contexts on a national scale to improve the water and fertilizer use efficiency, optimize plant pest defense and increase soil carbon stock. Sensors will be installed at all sites to monitor key environmental, crop and soil parameters, and an autonomous mobile robotic system will be developed to assess 3D canopy indices and soil gas exchange. All these activities will help to create effective guidelines for wine producers, to allow vineyards to adapt to climate change, and a prototype of a mobile platform for continuous monitoring of the state of the vineyard will be implemented.

    Role: project partners

Total budget for all Italian partners: € 320,070,095.50 - Budget for UniUD task 4.2.2: € 280,000.00

  • PRIN PNRR Project “Spatial Vine”

    December 2023 – November 2025

The project seeks to optimize water consumption through fine-tuning deficit irrigation strategies and fertilization N regime. The project aspires to decipher and spatially localize the molecular mechanisms activated by roots to promote water and N acquisition. The use of innovative, multidisciplinary and high-tech technologies will allow to spatially characterize the molecular responses activated in roots. Spatial data will be integrated with metabolomics, microbiome sequencing, plant phenotyping and physiological results to better define the biological processes activated in roots.

Role: project partner (PI UniUD Laura Zanin)

    Total budget: € 300.000,00 – Budget UniUD: € 127.012,00

  • PRIN Cantina 5.0 - Well-being of operators in winery'

The aim of the project is to monitor the well-being of winery operators by means of wearable sensors to detect physiological parameters (heart, movement, etc.). Measurements will be made on the basis of measurements taken with various measuring systems to detect the most important parameters such as temperature, carbon dioxide, sulphur dioxide, alcohol, etc.

Head of the Udine Unit, Gubiani Rino.

    Participants: Zironi Roberto, Comuzzo Piergiorgio.

    Total funding: € 206,000 (Udine 66,000). Duration 24 months
