Mathematical Models in Natural Sciences
academic year 2023/24
Academic Coordinator: Paolo Gidoni
Period: First semester
Duration: 28 hours
Program: This course aims to introduce modeling in the field of natural sciences, demonstrating how mathematical description and rigorous qualitative analysis help clarify fundamental mechanisms. The final course program will be decided taking into account the interests and background of the participants. A potential outline of the topics covered could be as follows:
- basic models of population genetics
- evolutionary game theory and adaptive dynamics
- sex allocation and sexual selection
- mass action kynetics and chemical reaction networks
- Michaelis-Menten model for enzyme kinetics
